New
Hi, I just have an announcement to make. I am going to be changing the format of the site. I need to put this space to a much better use as I have been seriously neglecting the site. I just been real busy and have all kinds of things I want to share, but I just don't ahve the time to do updates.
So I decided to change things and make this site mainly a makeup portfolio and resume. The changes will begin to happen this weekend. My personal makeup looks will be transferred to the portfolio section of the site.
I will give more updates as they come.
It's exciting! I am deteremined to start the makeup artisty as a career more seriously.

It's been awhile, just about 5 months, since I last did a FOTD post. And to be honest what mostly inspired this one was my new hair-do. I chop off length and lighten it with subtle highlights. This was all done at school.

SAVE YOUR COLOR!!
So this is a little preach give to me in class during hair coloring. And now I am going to pass along this little preach to my readers because I couldn't agree more with what was said. And I had not thought of it this way.
Is is important to take care or your/your client's newly color treated hair. Most clients think that now that they just spent all this cash on getting their hair done that they save on the products they use to take care of their hair afterwards. So they buy drugstore brands. However you will find the next time they come to you for a touchup, they complain that the color faded or washed out. And thats if they even come back to you as they could blame you for the color fading.
But what they don't realize is that they are using the harmful products, even if it is the color treated safe lines found in drugstores. And it is our responsibility as cosmetologists to educate the client that the salon lines and commercials lines have much more differences other than price. I will get into that with another post later.
Another way to think about is: If you buy a silk blouse, do you wash it the same way as you would wash your jeans? NO because you just spent all this money on a new silk blouse. So why wash your new 'expensive' hair with cheap stuff that has 80% water content that does nothing to protect your color?? So it really does make a difference to use professional products made with long lasting color in mind. It's professional for a reason and not just so the companies can charge you more.
So the next time you color your hair, consider the cost of good products as part of the price for the color service.
Here are a few good products that I have tried and still use and have been recommended by the other hair colorists and my educators.
Color Extend Rich Defender from Redken
Matrix Shade Memory line
P.S. the normal conditioner from Redken Color Extend sucks. It does not moisturize and leaves hair stringy.

Eyeshadow Primers
Too Faced Shadow Insurance 4/5 v. Urban Decay Primer Potion 4/5
I rated them the same however they are both very good but let's be truthful here...there are flaws in these diamonds. UDPP is a bitch to blend but a dream at staying power (i.e. no creasing). Too Faced also lasts pretty good but will crease before the UDPP does and provides a good base for blending
Another thing, UDPP does seem to provide a much smoother surface for the shadow.
Also, Too Faced will get runny. So if you do not give it a good shake before squeezing out the product you will get the 'watery ketchup' like consistency before the good stuff comes out. \
And I won't even go there with the UDPP packaging. We all know the idiocracy that went behind this design.

Roller Sets - Rods and Clips
This one has far less pinching and tucks right in and 'becomes one' with the roller.
Another option that is use is bobby pins, those gigantic ones. I don't car for these as they do not fit well with larger size rollers due to roller thickness.
Then as the rods get smaller the pins get too long.
There are many different types or roller sizes. Below is a view of the smooth magnetic rollers. I prefer these rollers for wet styling. Although there are many types of rollers in addition to sizes.

Roller Set on Ms Kim
So this was actually for my unit exam on wet-styling. We had to roller set using a curvature wrapping method on sides and top front. And then bricklay in back. And once dried we had to brush and relax and set the 'do

Marcel Curls
I don't like the front hairline too much, had I not been tired, I would have work it better and did something with the front. Anyhow, this is something I did during Thermal Styling unit back in March. I had learn how to use a Marcel Iron (BabyLiss Ceramic)and was practicing at home on Ms Kim.
I started at the bottom by the nape and took small sections moving upward to create a sprial curl effect.

I know I been MIA but......
I am some exciting news to share with everybody.......I have enrolled in to the cosmetology program at Regency Beauty Institute!!! YAY!So I started on the 24th of March and I am going part-time/20 hours per week. Wisconsin requires 1,800.00 education hours, so school should take me roughly 23 months to complete. I will be attending Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights and Saturday daytime. To chronicle and share things I am learning and give my readers some insight to how my cosmetology program is going, I have created a new catergory called Cosm etology School in this blog.

My Thoughts on the Heatherette Color Story from MAC
Soooo. Heatherette is exciting huh? hmmmmmm
Okay so, Heatherette has indeed had me excited for the past month, right after Fafi left me lil disappointed. And for the past week I have been previewing swatches and notice I was becoming less and less enthused. To me, this line is absolutely nothing unique overall. I will throw some exceptions in there, like the patent leather lashes and the dual pencils. But even with the exceptions there are exceptions like the idea of dual pencils are cool but the half the colors suck.
I think what it was for me was the package is so stimulating. The eyeshadow trio packaging is slick even though the colors are super duplicates! I really doubt I will be purchasing anything from this collection now.
side note: I already had Jardin Aires pigment from the Strange Hybrid collection last year and it is a pretty pretty goldish tan color but it is flaky, chunky and has a mega frosty finish. Why re-release this MAC? I still love you though.

Equate Facial Cleansing Towelettes - Review
So I came across the babies very randomly on Makeupalley.com and I took notice because of the high rating and rave reviews of this generic product. And knowing that I am not the best at remembering to -gasp- remove my makeup at night, I decide I WAS going to try these. And I am telling you, I was super excited that I did run right out to Walmart to pick these up. And guess what I love them!
RUN, don't walk to buy these!
